TURNING POINT — When Art Becomes Action
Share
What happens when a painting stops being just a painting?
Can abstract art make us stop?
Can it make us question something?
Can it bring people together?
And can it eventually become real action?
For me, TURNING POINT was the answer.

IT BEGAN WITH AN EXHIBITION
In January 2024, I opened my solo exhibition TURNING POINT at the Plovdiv Cultural Institute.
Twenty-nine original acrylic paintings explored questions about our planet, nature, the elements, society and the human being.
But from the beginning, I knew I did not want this to be only an exhibition.
I wanted something to happen.
The exhibition was supported by RIEW Plovdiv, with the participation of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) in the project's environmental cause.
And then the paintings began to meet people.

WHEN THE AUDIENCE BECAME PART OF THE ART
During the project, I painted live in front of the audience.
Water, colour, movement and gravity came together on the canvas.
But something even more important happened.
We created another painting together.
Everyone present could become part of its creation.
One painting was created by the artist.
The other was created by everyone.
For me, this was one of the most important moments of TURNING POINT.
Because art does not always have to be created alone.

REARRANGING THE SYSTEM
We also stopped to talk about abstract art.
What is abstract art?
Why do we sometimes need an image without a fixed answer?
Can a painting change the way we see ourselves — or the world?
And then we did something very simple.
We rearranged the paintings.
Using printed fragments from the artworks, participants created a collective collage.
The system was no longer fixed.
Pieces could move.
Connections could change.
Everyone could create a different version.
The audience was no longer only looking at art.
They were participating in it.
And this is where an exhibition became an art project.

WHEN A PAINTING BECAME A HOME
The final chapter began with one painting:
THE BRAID OF LIFE.
I chose it for a charitable auction because its meaning was deeply connected with the choices and connections that shape our lives.
The painting found a new owner.
Together with additional donations, the auction raised 780 BGN for activities connected with the conservation of the Tengmalm's owl (Aegolius funereus).
The funds were donated to the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds.
They helped provide materials for nesting boxes, which were later installed in the Belocherkovski Ridge in the Western Rhodopes.
And the story continued.
The nesting boxes are monitored with cameras.
The painting had left the gallery.
Its message had entered the forest.
A painting became a home.
And a home can become a future.

ART CAN BECOME ACTION
This is what TURNING POINT taught me.
An idea can become a painting.
A painting can become a conversation.
A conversation can become a choice.
And a choice can become action.
This is why I believe that an art project is different from an exhibition.
An art project is where the viewer does not remain only a viewer.
They become part of what is happening.

NOW, THE STORY CAN CONTINUE
Today, I have created a limited edition of The Braid of Life so that this story can travel further.
Each edition is signed and numbered and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
15% of the proceeds from every edition sold will be donated to the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) to support wildlife conservation.
So when you choose this artwork, you are not simply bringing a piece of TURNING POINT into your home.
You are helping its message continue beyond the canvas.
A piece of art.
A piece of the story.
A contribution to life.
You don't just own a piece of the story.
You help write the next chapter.
