ART PROJECT TURNING POINT
WHEN ART BECOMES ACTION
TURNING POINT began as an abstract art exhibition in
Plovdiv in January 2024.
It became something more.
A project about the choices we make, the world we live in and the future we
leave behind.
Through painting, live art, conversation and a charitable action, the
project brought together artists, audiences, institutions and people who
believe that art can do more than simply be seen.
It can move us.
It can connect us.
And sometimes, it can become action.
THE EXHIBITION
A TURNING POINT BEGINS
On 13 January 2024, I opened my solo exhibition TURNING POINT
at the Plovdiv Cultural Institute.
The exhibition brought together 29 original acrylic paintings exploring
questions about our planet, nature, the elements, society and the human being.
Some paintings were intense and explosive.
Others were quiet and intimate.
Together, they formed a visual conversation about change — and about the
moment when we decide that something has to be different.
The exhibition was supported by RIEW Plovdiv, with the
participation of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds
(BSPB) in the project's environmental cause.
The exhibition was accompanied by a series of events that gradually
transformed the project from an exhibition into an experience shared with the
public.
ART IN ACTION
PAINTING LIVE
On 21 January 2024, the exhibition moved beyond the gallery wall.
I created a new painting in front of the audience — allowing the process
itself to become part of the artwork.
Water, colour, movement and gravity came together in real time.
The audience did not simply watch a finished painting.
They witnessed its becoming.
The event also opened another possibility: art could be created
collectively.
A second painting was created together with the people present — becoming a
shared artwork born from the energy of the room.
That painting remained in the collection of the Plovdiv Cultural
Institute.
One painting was created by the artist.
The other was created by everyone.
This became one of the project's most important ideas:
Art does not always have to be created alone.
Rearranging the SYSTEM
A CONVERSATION ABOUT ABSTRACT ART
TURNING POINT was also an invitation to stop and talk.
What is abstract art?
Why do we sometimes need an image without a fixed answer?
Can a painting change the way we see ourselves — or the world around us?
During the project, the audience was invited to enter this conversation.
And then something unexpected happened.
Instead of simply looking at the paintings, we began to rearrange
them.
Participants created a collective collage using printed fragments of
artworks from TURNING POINT.
The system was no longer fixed.
Everyone could move the pieces.
Everyone could participate.
Everyone could create a different version.
ART FOR LIFE
WHEN A PAINTING BECAME A HOME
The final chapter of TURNING POINT began with one painting:
THE BRAID OF LIFE
I chose this artwork for a charitable auction because its meaning is deeply
connected with the choices and connections that shape our lives.
The auction took place as the closing event of the exhibition.
The painting found a new owner, and together with additional donations, 780
BGN were raised for activities connected with the conservation of the Tengmalm's
owl (Aegolius funereus).
The funds were donated to the Bulgarian Society for the Protection
of Birds.
But the story did not end with the donation.
The money helped provide materials for nesting boxes.
During the summer, volunteers built the nesting boxes according to a special
design based on ornithological experience from Serbia.
They were later installed in the Belocherkovski Ridge in the Western
Rhodopes, an area partly included in the Natura 2000 network.
And today, the story continues.
The nesting boxes are monitored with cameras, allowing us to follow the life
of the birds and, hopefully, witness the arrival of a new generation.
A painting left the gallery.
Its message entered the forest.
THE ART PROJECT CONTINUES
THE QUESTION BEHIND TURNING POINT
We live in a world that never seems to stop.
We hurry from one day to the next, surrounded by information, noise and endless demands.
We are constantly connected — yet often disconnected from ourselves, from nature and from what truly matters.
Our days pass.
Sometimes grey.
Sometimes unnoticed.
But where are we actually rushing to?
Are we not, in our endless hurry, simply rushing towards our own death?
TURNING POINT began with a simple invitation:
Stop.
Stop today.
Look around.
Look within.
Because perhaps today is the moment when the world can turn around.
The moment when we choose to live differently.
To reconnect.
To care.
To act.
Today is the moment the world turns around.
This is what I believe art can do.
It can begin as an idea.
Become a painting.
Become a conversation.
Become a choice.
And eventually,
become a real home —
and a future for life.
FIND YOUR TURNING POINT
-
What would you change?
-
What would you protect?
-
What action is waiting for you?
Your turning point may begin with a thought.
Mine began with a painting.
ART CAN BECOME ACTION
A PAINTING CAN BECOME A HOME.
In 2024, The Braid of Life became more than a painting.
It was offered in a charity auction as part of my TURNING POINT art project.
The funds raised were donated to the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds and helped support the creation and installation of nesting boxes for an endangered owl in the Rhodopes.
The story did not end with the auction.
The nesting boxes are now being monitored with cameras, allowing us to follow the life that may unfold inside them.
A painting became a home.
And a home can become a future.
NOW, THE STORY CAN CONTINUE
I have created a limited edition of The Braid of Life so that this story can reach further.
Each edition is signed and numbered and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
15% of the proceeds from every edition sold will be donated to the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) to support wildlife conservation.
When you choose this artwork, you are not simply bringing a piece of TURNING POINT into your home.
You are helping its message continue beyond the canvas.
